Oklahoma ranks as the worst in the nation for children experiencing toxic and adverse conditions at home. This includes neglect and abuse, drug use in the home, exposure to domestic violence, having an incarcerated family member, and more. One thing we have seen in Oklahoma is clear, traumatization in childhood leads to maladaptive adulthood; and thus the cycle continues.
The Athena Project aims to eradicate this cycle by using early engagement in STEM, creative activities, and technological tools to help children and youth gain autonomy, self-confidence, academic achievement, and personal power. In short, we partner with organizations to integrate evidence-based STEAM strategies to foster empowerment. Our team utilizes the latest neuroscience based research on systems of teaching and learning for the empowerment of children - working to break cycles of marginalization by using engagement in progressive educational activities.
